Reely Good Day at Clarkes Crossing!

Well. We finally did it. After the weather said no, then insurance said no, then the river said no again just for fun, the GREAT Vacy Carp Muster went ahead last Sunday. And what a day it was: 71 people signed in at Clarkes Crossing, and every one of them made the wait worth it.
Kids, mums, dads, grandpas and nans, people who'd clearly never held a rod before and people who clearly sleep with one. All lined up on the bank for a morning by the water with their mates, bellies full of breakfast, playing fishy games and having a crack at winning all that LOOT!
🏆 The big fish
Over 18: Beau Smith, 77cm. And then, just to rub it in, he landed the next biggest too at 76cm. Save some for the rest of us, Beau! Well done.

12 and under: Finn Crockett, 56cm. Massive result, Finn. A few of the adults are quietly reconsidering their technique.

Massive congrats to you both, and to everyone else who wrestled, dropped or chased a carp. Special mention to the kids who rolled in so much sand they ended up looking like sugar cookies. 🍪
🙌 Teamwork makes the dream work
Days like this don't just happen. Our deepest thanks to:
Hunter Water and LLS '4 Valley's Program' for chucking in over $1,000 worth of prizes. Incredibly generous, and the winners are still grinning.

DPI Fisheries and Matt for pulling us out when the red tape had us stuck in the mud. Honestly, give that man a medal. Or at least a sausage. He made the day possible. Thanks Matt!!!

The kids at Vacy Public School, who backed Finn Crockett's BIG IDEA at the Vacy Community Builders youth workshops, and Mrs Fonti for getting the school on board.
Lex Ineson and Dave Merrit for serving up bacon and egg rolls on the BBQ. Nobody fishes well on an empty stomach, and these two made sure nobody had to find out.
The Clarkes Crossing team for the cracking access and a gorgeous open space. More on these legends below.
The Vacy Country Carnival, Dianne and Penny for sponsoring that delicious breakfast.
Julie Overton from Paterson for helping keep the whole day ticking along. Her quick and creative thinking helped make sure the day was super fun and ran smoothly.
All of you who showed up, got muddy and made it a ripper of a day.
🏖️ The Vacy Beach team
That lovely clear bank we all stood on? Not an accident. A crew of locals turns up every single month to weed, tidy and generally fuss over the place so it's ready for days like Sunday. Massive thanks to the Clarkes Crossing Landcare team:
Peter Kleing (PK)
Janet Piper
Mark Bikerdike
Damo Crouch (new member! 👋)
Want in? They meet on the third Sunday of every month at 2pm. No experience needed, just bring gloves and a willingness to pull weeds and get stuck in. Text PK on 0403 865 325 to be added to the WhatsApp group. They're looking for new members. Go on!
👋 Until next time
Thanks again, everyone, and keep fishing! Every carp pulled out of the river means clearer water, healthier riverbanks and more room for our native fish (and platypus!) to thrive. 💚 So grab a rod, get outside, and we'll see you at the next one.
Many thanks, Duncan Smith & Sian Ineson
